History of the Refuge

The Casa del Refugio is a beautiful building inherited from the ancestral families that founded the city with the funds of the best families of colonial Mexico. Survivor of the wars of independence, the large house that today occupies the hotel opened its hospitality to the visitor since the 19th century, when the "Gran Hotel Mercado" was inaugurated, which had been bought and inherited by the best families in the city. Mercado, Los Larragoiti, Los Rodríguez de la Serra, who, unlike Dr. Mercado, the first owner, kept their name until the 20th century.
